patinating that?

Hi - so excited this morning as my first dodgy sculpture DID fire entire! I did a T'ang Horse to try a four legged hollow form - was more interested in the technical side of would it warp or slump as it has no armature or support - it didn't so that was good!

I was going to verdigris glaze it - might still do to see if the form can stand a 1260 fire as well, but having browsed your decoration posts, I can see that I will lose some definition and detail - and thought about gilding it in copper leaf and then applying a patina to try and fake verdigris? Any views?

I have used gilding before on ceramic glazed pieces - but guess I might have to seal it before gilding?

Any views or help gratefully accepted!

Hi Jeni,
I was wondering about using gold leaf on some areas of the plaster statues I do.
Could you offer any advice on this? like the base coat - do you find rabbitskin and gesso powder preferable to the acrylic gessoes?
Or am I starting off on the wrong foot in terms of materials?
Thanks
Jeanette

I've used the "painted on" Metal coating sold by "Sculpt Nouveau" with very good results. I would think that a metal leaf would not be polishable because it is so thin.

Hi Paul and Jeni ,
- there is a little info on these products links about applying gildings, &
patinas - they may help guide to find some equivalent products for what you hope to acheive.
Wondered if perhaps anyone has experience of these gilding and patination products from Tiranti (England) to share?
I would like to find a good liquid gold paint which flows well and looks convincing! Very Happy
