Martin Jennings
Biography
Martin Jennings makes portrait sculptures and statues, often incorporating carved inscriptions into the work. He has been commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, St. Paul's Cathedral, the Palace of Westminster, the University of Oxford and many other national institutions. His work is in private and public collections worldwide.
His subjects include prominent figures from the worlds of politics, the military, royalty, academia, the arts, industry, medicine and the law. His statue of John Betjeman at St. Pancras station is now a celebrated London landmark. In 2010 his statue of Philip Larkin was erected in the city of Hull. His silver portrait of Lord Bingham, commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, was a focus for discussion in a BBC 4 programme on portrait sculpture in the same year. Commissions in progress include a monument on London's South Bank to the Crimean War heroine Mary Seacole and Britain's first statue of Charles Dickens for the city of Portsmouth.
All Jennings's bronze and silver sculptures are cast by Pangolin Editions.
Martin Jennings lives and works in Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
